Shopa Docket, Australia’s market leader in in-store coupons, has been providing consumers with great deals for over 30 years. The company is known for featuring coupons on the back of receipts from major retailers such as Woolworths Supermarkets, Target Australia, Kmart, Big W, and IGA. The goal of this project was to transform the traditional paper coupon experience into a digital platform, making it more convenient and accessible for users while expanding the reach of Shopa Docket’s services.

Project Goals
The main objectives of the project were to:
- Transform the traditional paper coupon experience into a digital platform accessible through a website and mobile app.
- Enhance the user experience by providing location-based deals and easy navigation through various coupon categories.
- Create a seamless coupon redemption process for both users and participating SMEs (small medium businesses).
- Build a brand library and design system to ensure consistency and ease of future development.
- Implement accessibility features to cater to a wide range of users.
Process and Approach
- Discovery: Conducted user and stakeholder interviews, market research, and competitor analysis to understand user needs and gather insights on the coupon industry landscape.
- Define: Synthesised findings from the discovery phase to identify key problem areas and opportunities for improvement, ultimately defining the project goals and scope.
- Wireframing: Created wireframes to visualise the structure and layout of the app and website, ensuring a user-friendly design.
- User Journey Mapping: Mapped out user journeys to provide a seamless experience when discovering and redeeming coupons.
- Prototyping: Developed interactive prototypes to validate design choices and gather user feedback.
- Visual Design: Focused on creating an aesthetically pleasing interface that aligns with Shopa Docket’s branding.
- User Testing & Evaluation: Conducted user testing sessions and iterated on the design based on user feedback.

Key Features and Solutions

- Location-Based Deals: The app and website automatically detect the user’s location to display relevant deals in their area.
- Category Sorting: Coupons are sorted by categories, with the hierarchy determined by the frequency of use, allowing users to easily browse and find the deals they are interested in.
- Horizontal Card Lists: Coupons are displayed in horizontal card lists separated by category, providing a visually appealing and intuitive browsing experience.
- Seamless Redemption Process: Users can simply select the coupon they wish to redeem and present it to the cashier, making the process quick and easy for both parties.
- Brand Library and Design System: Created a cohesive brand library and design system to ensure consistency across the platform and streamline future updates.
