Shopa Save: Enhancing User Experience with a Cashback & Deals Platform

Shopa Save is a cashback and deals platform in Australia that enables users to connect their Visa or Mastercard and earn in-store cashback from local retailers. The platform also offers online cashback, prepaid vouchers for various services, and continuously evolves through market-leading partnerships. As the Design Lead, I worked on the App and Website, focusing on UX and UI design, product ownership, growth, and stakeholder management.

Project Goals

The primary goals of this project were to:

  1. Create a seamless user journey that enhances user experience and increases client customer discovery and retention.
  2. Provide real-time measurable insights for SME clients with minimal staff training.
  3. Define customer goals through user interviews and heuristic testing.
  4. Define business goals through stakeholder interviews, competitor analysis, and key metrics.

Process and Approach

To achieve these goals, I employed the following design process:

  1. Discovery: Conducted user interviews and stakeholder interviews to gather insights into user needs, business requirements, and competitor analysis.
  2. Wireframing: Created wireframes to visualise the platform’s structure and layout, enabling discussions and refinements among the team.
  3. User Journey Mapping: Mapped out user journeys to ensure a smooth experience and facilitate the distribution and ease of use of local cashback and prepaid deals.
  4. Prototyping: Developed interactive prototypes for the App and Website to validate design choices and gather user feedback.
  5. Visual Design: Focused on creating an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface that catered to the needs of diverse users.
  6. Dev Handoff: Collaborated with the development team, providing design specifications and addressing technical constraints.
  7. User Testing & Evaluation: Conducted user testing sessions and iterated on the design based on user feedback.

Key Features and Solutions

We implemented the following features to enhance the user experience:

  1. Location-based Deals: The platform identifies the user’s location to display relevant deals and offers.
  2. Category-based Sorting: Coupons are sorted by category, with the hierarchy determined based on the frequency of use.
  3. Horizontal Card Lists: Deals are presented in horizontal card lists, separated by category, making it easy for users to find what they’re looking for.
  4. Visual Navigation Hints: The design provides visual hints to indicate that content is horizontally scrollable on the app and uses arrows for web carousel navigation.

Outcomes and Impact

The Shopa Save platform successfully delivered a seamless user journey, enhanced user experience, and increased client customer discovery and retention. By focusing on users’ needs and addressing business goals, the platform provided real-time measurable insights for SME clients and required minimal staff training. The result is a user-friendly cashback and deals platform that caters to the needs of diverse users, making it easier for them to discover and take advantage of local deals and offers.
